Love exercising and staying fit? Why not find a job where you can be paid to do this? Below are just a few fun jobs that revolve all around fitness.
Personal trainer
Personal trainers help other people to reach their fitness and exercise goals. This could include losing weight, bulking up or training for a fitness challenge such as a run or mountain climb. If you already have a vast knowledge of different exercises and what they do, you may already have the expertise you need to become a personal trainer. That said, it’s still worth getting certification as many gyms will not hire you without it - and gyms are typically where most personal trainers find their first clients.
Yoga instructor
If you already practise yoga, you could consider getting into yoga teaching - and then opening your own yoga class. This will keep you fit by allowing you to train as you teach. Becoming a yoga instructor does require certification, which requires a 200 hour yoga teacher training course. Already knowing a lot about yoga - including all the poses and their benefits - will help you to get certified and become a successful yoga instructor.
Pilates instructor
Prefer pilates? If you’ve been doing pilates a while and consider yourself fairly knowledgeable, you could consider taking things to the next stage and looking into pilates instructor training. This will give you the qualification you need to teach your own pilates classes. There are different levels of pilates instruction to explore and each requires a different amount of hours to complete. It’s worth looking into full instructor training if you want to be able to teach exercises and use pilates equipment. Look out for a course near you so that you can start training towards being an instructor.
Swim instructor
Swim instructors teach people various swim techniques in order to become better swimmers. This could include teaching kids how to swim for the first time, or it could involve teaching seasoned swimmers to develop their technique for competitive events. To become a swim instructor, you obviously need to be a very strong and experienced swimmer. However, you’ll also need some form of swimming certification such as American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or YMCA Swim Instructor Certification. You can then start looking for jobs at local pools where you can take classes and source private clients.
Martial arts instructor
Do you practice a martial art? Becoming an instructor could be a great way to develop your passion for that martial art and could give you new goals to explore. To get your instructor certification, you’ll usually need to have achieved a black belt or an equivalent ranking. You’ll then need to take an instructor course in your chosen martial art and pass an exam, which will enable you to open up your own class. Martial arts typically involves a lot of fitness training on top of teaching the combat and art side of things, and could allow you to stay fit while you are teaching.
